With the Baylor Bears falling to No. 8 UNC Saturday, a pretty remarkable NCAA Tournament streak continued.
Per college basketball insider Jeff Borzello, “The last national champion to advance to the Sweet 16 the following year was Duke in 2015 and 2016. First-weekend exits for every champ since then.”

The defending national champs showed their mettle by battling back from 25 points down to tie the game up and send things to OT. However, Baylor just couldn’t get it done in the extra frame; although a missed turnover call really deflated the Bears when they had UNC on the ropes.
Now there’ll be a new NCAA champion this year. But the upsets likely aren’t done.
You truly never know what can happen when it comes to March Madness.
When the field of 68 matches up, any team from anywhere, can take down anyone. Evidenced by no defending champion even making it to the Sweet 16 the following year over the past half decade or so.
Who will add their names to NCAA history will be further determined this weekend.
