The Red Sox newest addition won’t be in the lineup for Sunday night’s primetime matchup against the Yankees.
Per the Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham, Trevor Story is away from the team with flu-like symptoms.
“Trevor Story isn’t feeling well [it’s not Covid] and isn’t available tonight,” the Red Sox reporter tweeted. Adding, “… Matt Barnes threw and is feeling OK. He is available tonight.”

The two-time All-Star logged a hit in Saturday’s loss to New York Saturday. But, the second baseman felt so ill Sunday that he took a COVID test, which thankfully came back negative.
Speaking on Story’s status, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was hopeful that Story was just dealing with 24-hour flu symptoms and Boston’s $140 million man should be back in the lineup Monday.
As for pitcher Matt Barnes, the 31-year-old’s been dealing with some back tightness. But after tossing the ball around earlier in the day, he is available if needed.
The Red Sox will be trying to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the archrival Yankees.
