Brooklyn Nets point guard Ben Simmons remains out due to a back injury, but the latest update on his status is somewhat encouraging.
According to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic, Simmons has resumed light on-court workouts. The Nets need to see how Simmons’ body responds to these workouts, but there is some hope that he’ll return in time for the playoffs.
“Ben Simmons has resumed light on-court workouts, sources tell me. The hope remains he’ll be able to ramp up for a potential return in time for the playoffs,” Charania said. “The Nets and Simmons have worked together on managing his back issues, which flared up when he was previously aiming for a mid-March return.”
Less than two weeks ago, Nets head coach Steve Nash told reporters that Simmons has a herniated disk in his back that required an epidural.

Even if Simmons doesn’t return to the hardwood in time for the playoffs, the Nets will remain a serious threat to win the Eastern Conference. That’s simply due to the fact that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are playing at a high level.
Simmons would take the Nets to the next level though. Not only is he a two-time All-Defensive first-team selection, he’s an exceptional ball-handler who can get his other teammates clean looks at the basket.
With only five games remaining in the regular season, Simmons is running out of time to return to the court before the start of the playoffs.
