What Day 3 tight end could interest the Las Vegas Raiders?

April 5, 2022 by Raiders Wire

The Raiders might have the best tight-end duo in the NFL in Darren Waller and Foster Moreau. They are both highly athletic with Waller being among the best receiving threats in the league and Moreau being an excellent blocker.

Given the history of Josh McDaniels in the NFL, we should fully expect them to be on the field together a ton during the 2022 season. We should also expect them to add another developmental tight end, especially as Moreau enters the final year of his contract.

So which Day 3 tight end could the Raiders look to add in the NFL Draft? In a recent article by Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus, he named Charlie Kolar (Iowa State) as the best Day 3 tight end in the draft. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on the player:

“Kolar is a big tight end at 6-foot-6 and 252 pounds with 34.5-inch arms. He blew testing out of the water during his pro day, turning in a 4.67-second 40-yard dash, 1.62-second 10-yard split, 6.98-second three-cone, 35.5-inch vertical and 120-inch broad jump.

On top of that, he’s consistently been one of the highest-graded tight ends over his collegiate career, as Kolar has been a top-10 graded player at the position in each of the last three seasons.”

Kolar needs some work as a blocker, but that can be developed with time. He has rare size and speed at the position and just knows how to get open. If the Raiders want to add another pass-catcher to their offense without spending one of their top picks, Kolar would be a great option.

With his athleticism and production, it wouldn’t be a shock if he ended up being the best tight end in this class. Kolar could be a huge steal on Day 3 of the draft for the Raiders.
