Watch: Francisco Lindor Turns Double Play While Speaking On ESPN Broadcast

May 2, 2022 by The Spun

Francisco Lindor on the field for the Mets.

Every so often, ESPN’s live in-game interviews during baseball broadcasts produce a fun moment. Tonight was one of those occasions.

In the top of the third inning of the Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was interviewed while the game was in progress.

With a man on first and one out, Philadelphia’s Rhys Hoskins smoked a Max Scherzer offering to Lindor just as he stopped talking. The two-time Gold Glove winner fielded the 102-mph grounder with ease, tossing it to second baseman Luis Guillorme while yelling “turn it baby.”

Guillorme did turn it, firing the ball to Dom Smith at first base to complete the inning-ending double play.

Francisco Lindor just casually fielded a ground ball coming at 102 MPH and turned a double play *while being interviewed*. That was freaking sweet. pic.twitter.com/8upvimT7bU

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a ball get hit to a player while he’s mic’d up, but it is definitely one of the coolest times it has happened.

Lindor stayed on the mic through the bottom of the third, which included an at-bat against Phillies starter Zach Eflin. Unfortunately, he struck out.

The Phillies currently lead the Mets 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning on ESPN.
