The Washington Football Team could be set for a big-time rebranding in 2022. And based on yesterday’s episode “Making the Brand” produced by the organization, it appeared the franchise had narrowed down new name possibilities to eight options: the Armada, Brigade, Commanders, Defenders, Presidents, RedHogs, RedWolves, and Washington Football Team.
But, according to team president Jason Wright, that is not the case.
With a tweet on Thursday, Wright cleared up any confusion caused by the names that appeared in yesterday’s video.
“Just to be clear, because everyone keeps asking, we are down to and working through a final three but this is no form of final 8 list. These are just a selection of names that happened to show up in the video our team produced,” he wrote.

While this may not be the exact final-eight list, Wright and the WFT organization have narrowed “40,000 submissions” down to three undisclosed names and logos.
In yesterday’s “Making the Brand” video, Wright and head coach Ron Rivera discussed these three options, but the names were censored out.
“I like [redacted],” Rivera said.
“I really like [redacted], Wright responded.
While some fans have grown to love the Washington Football Team placeholder name, it appears the franchise will have a new nickname in 2022.
