The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly looking to trade defensive end Danielle Hunter in order to sort out their current cap space situation, per team insider Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune.
Hunter has an $18 million roster bonus due on Sunday. The Vikings want to clear necessary space by getting rid of his $25.83 cap hit in 2022.

The Buffalo Bills were reported as a team interested in acquiring Hunter earlier this week, but today’s signing of superstar DE Von Miller likely takes that potential deal off the table.
Whether it comes by way of a trade with Hunter or elsewhere, the Vikings will need to clear up their cap situation if they want make this year’s new free-agent moves official. The Minnesota organization has signed punter Jordan Berry, guard Austin Schlottmann, tight end Johnny Mundt, linebacker Jordan Hicks and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips over the past couple days.
After back-to-back 14.5-sack Pro-Bowl seasons in 2018-19, Hunter missed the entirety of the 2020 season with a herniated disc in his neck. Playing at a high level through the first seven games of the 2021 season, the 27-year-old DE suffered a season-ending pectoral tear.
Wherever he ends up in 2022, hopefully Hunter can get back on track and stay healthy for a full season.
