Current Masters leader Scottie Scheffler has cruised through the first three rounds at Augusta National — but an arrant tee shot on the 18th hole provided his first real struggle of the tournament.
Pulling his driver well left on the final hole, it took several minutes to find Scheffler’s tee shot deep in the fairway-side brush. After about 10 minutes of deliberation with a PGA Tour rules official, the 25-year-old Texan dropped his ball two club lengths right into the pine straw.
Even after taking this penalty stroke, Scheffler had a tough angle into the difficult 18th-hole green. But just as he has all week, he hit a beauty of a shot to help mitigate the damage.
Hitting the green on the fly, Scheffler’s ball rolled about five yards to the left of the hole before falling just off the backside of the green.

Chipping his fourth shot to a couple feet, Scheffler was able to knock in his putt for a ridiculous bogie save.
Entering the 18th hole, Scheffler held a commanding four-shot lead over second place leader Cam Smith. When his tee shot went into the brush, it seemed as though the World No. 1 golfer was doomed to drop at least two strokes.
But after this incredible recovery, Scheffler still holds a three-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round.
