A star pitcher was born at the Little League World Series over the weekend.
Gavin Weir is a 12-year-old pitcher for the South Dakota little league team. He was phenomenal on the mound during his two outings last week, striking out a combined 30 hitters. Last Friday, he went just under six innings allowing no hits and striking out 15 batters.
He didn’t just dominate on the mound. He also drew comparisons to Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale. Why? Weir utilizes a very similar delivery.

The Red Sox may want to keep an eye on Gavin Weir. He could end up being their ace about a decade from now.
Chris Sale, meanwhile, returned to Boston’s rotation nine days ago after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He went five innings and allowed just six hits and two earned runs in a 16-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Sale was even better in his second start of the season on Aug. 20 against the Texas Rangers, allowing just five hits and no earned runs in another win.
Sale had an awesome reaction on his return to the mound last week.
“I’m just so freakin’ appreciative,” Sale said, via Boston.com. “I can’t think of anything else. My guys sending me text messages, giving me phone calls. … My teammates gave me life. This game was taken from me for two straight years. I realized how much I needed this game and needed my teammates and how they made me feel complete. I had a hole in my chest for two years and it sucked. For those guys to be there, it was a special moment.”
Sale will make his third start of the season this week against the Minnesota Twins.
