Hitting a ball thrown by an MLB pitcher is one of the most difficult feats in all of sports. But with that being said, we’ve come to expect far more from two-time All Star Javy Baez than he showed on Tuesday night.
During one of his at-bats tonight against the San Francisco Giants, the New York Mets slugger gave a huge swing at an off-speed pitch.
His swing was almost completely finished by the time the ball crossed the plate.
Slow-mo video of the way-too-early attempt is going viral on Twitter:

Though Baez ultimately got on base with a walk during this at-bat, this swing is completely indicative of his self-proclaimed “home run or strikeout” mentality. The former Chicago star currently leads the league with 146 strikeouts — but he also ranks 30th in MLB home runs with 24.
Earlier this month, the all-or-nothing hitter went 0-5 with five strikeouts — the first Mets player to do so since Dave Kingman on May 28, 1982, per MLB insider Andrew Simon.

The Mets acquired Baez in a trade with the Cubs in late July, sending their star infielder and pitcher Trevor Williams to Chicago in exchange for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong. Through 11 games in New York so far, Baez is batting .205 with 15 strikeouts, eight hits and two home runs.
The Mets currently trail the Giants 8-0 in the bottom of the ninth.
