North Carolina forward Brady Manek got an unfortunate wakeup call in the opening minutes of tonight’s national championship game against Kansas. ,
Moments after nailing a three-pointer for the Tar Heels’ first points of the evening, Manek was on the business end of an inadvertent elbow from Kansas big man David McCormack.
McCormack finished a lefthanded jump hook over UNC’s Armando Bacot, and on his follow-through, hit Manek flush in the face. The bearded sharpshooter was knocked to the floor.
While Manek did not have to leave the game, he did look like he was a bit shaken up, which is understandable.

North Carolina is not deep and relies on its starting five to play most of the game. They can’t afford to have any of their stars knocked out, so it’s a good thing that Manek was not hurt.
