The Urban Meyer era is officially underway in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars opened their preseason schedule on Saturday. Jacksonville faced Cleveland in the preseason opener, losing 23-13.
It was a frustrating opener for Meyer, who wished the team’s offense could have done more. Meyer sent a clear message to the media on Monday, claiming it will be much different moving forward.
“What you saw is not what we’re going to be,” Meyer said on Monday.
Jaguars coach Urban Meyer laments being told by assistants that they can’t show this, can’t show that in preseason. “What you saw is not what we’re going to be.”

Meyer made it clear following the loss that he doesn’t like slow, trodding offenses.
“I don’t like slow offenses. . . . I don’t wanna be one of those slow, wallowing offenses,” Meyer said, via Pro Football Talk. “And we’ll get that fixed. . . . We’ve just got to get it and go, go, go.”
Meyer specifically pointed out some areas in which Trevor Lawrence can improve, too.
“Trevor I believe was six of nine,” Meyer said after the game. “But we gave up two sacks I believe with the number one offense….If he’s holding the ball a little bit long, I kind of felt he did on one of them, but we’ll have more for after watch, but just disappointing offense. I don’t like slow offenses and I thought the third quarter was better with tempo, getting up to the line of scrimmage, snap the ball and it was, I don’t want to be one of those slow wallowing offenses and now we’ll go get that fixed.”
The Jaguars will continue their preseason slate next Monday against the Saints.
