Urban Meyer appears to be enjoying retirement life, as the former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach is working for Fox Sports. However, that’s not stopping anyone from speculating about a future coaching gig.
That speculation increased this week, as Tom Herman’s seat got warmer at Texas. While the Longhorns knocked off No. 6 Oklahoma State on Saturday night, the program suffered a devastating blow on the recruiting trail. Texas’ top commitment, the No. 1 quarterback in the country, announced his de-commitment.
Meyer has consistently been mentioned as a possible target for Texas if Herman is eventually canned. Many Texas fans brought up Meyer’s name this week when discussing the job.
My Texas football perspective:
1. Will never cheer for them to lose
2. Next to impossible they win out
3. Don’t think Herman should be or will be the coach next year
4. Urban Meyer will be the coach
5. If 4 happens, they win the Big 12 in 2021 pic.twitter.com/OLWxt7eQpT

Of course, Meyer would have to have interest in returning to the sideline. The Texas job is a great one – let’s be honest, Meyer would have the Longhorns in the College Football Playoff within a year or two – but maybe he wants to stay retired.
Meyer’s current co-worker, Matt Leinart, thinks he’ll stay retired.
“I’m gonna say no. I think he’s done,” Leinart said on The Ryen Russillo Podcast. “…Here’s my personal opinion. And I would be lying to say I haven’t talked to him about it, since he took the TV job last year. But my sense is that he’s done. I think he loves—and I know this for a fact—he loves family time. He loves that his head is not exploding. He has the cyst. It’s a real health issue for him. And now he’s getting paid to talk on TV and hang out, and we have a great group, man. We have a lot of fun. So I’ll say I wouldn’t be shocked if he ever went back, but my opinion is that I think he’s done.”
It’ll be interesting to see what happens this offseason.
