UConn won a double-overtime thriller over NC State in Monday night’s epic Elite Eight contest. Along with arguably representing the best NCAA tournament game of the year, the 91-87 triumph extended an unprecedented record.
Following the narrow win, Geno Auriemma’s Huskies are going to their 14th straight Final Four.
Paige Bueckers, who stole the show with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, was six years old when UConn started the streak in 2008.
Fans tried to wrap their heads around such an unfathomable prolonged stretch of consistent dominance.
That is one of the best basketball games I’ve ever seen. 14 straight Final Fours for UConn. Just wow.

14 straight Final Fours for UConn has to be the most absurd active streak in any sport. It’s a single-elimination tournament!

Somehow the UConn women almost seem underrated when you think about 14 straight Final Fours. That’s insane.

Sam Hoppen pointed out the statistical absurdity of UConn’s streak.
On average, teams have a 6.25% chance to reach the Final Four. For simplicity’s sake, let’s say UConn had a 20% chance each year because they’re that good. Based on this, the probability of UConn reaching the Final Four 14 years in a row would be 0.0000000163%!
Just incredible. https://t.co/GJhPQKp3Wi

Whether you love or hate UConn, 14 straight Final Fours is UNREAL. Do you know how freaking hard it is to achieve that level of excellence that consistently?! Winning is hard. What UConn does is other worldly. #RESPECT

Breanna Stewart led the Huskies to four of those Final Four trips, all of which culminated in a national championship. Like everyone else watching, including former teammate Katie Lou Samuelson, the Seattle Storm star was on the edge of her seat.
What a game omg omg omg

The Huskies have won six championships during this span and 11 total under Auriemma. Yet despite steadily reaching the Final Four, they have not made the national title game since Stewart’s senior year in 2016.
UConn will look to change that when facing the reigning champions, Stanford, on Friday in Minneapolis.
