ESPN’s Kay-Rod broadcast debuted on Sunday night for the Red Sox-Yankees game. It was a golden opportunity for Michael Kay and Alex Rodriguez to show they can give the network’s baseball coverage a fresh new look.
It’ll take some time for Kay-Rod to reach its full potential, but the initial TV ratings for this telecast aren’t bad at all.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the Kay-Rod broadcast had 265,000 people watching it. ESPN is calling Kay-Rod it’s most viewed alternative baseball broadcast ever.
For comparison, the Manningcast averages around 1.6 million viewers during the NFL season.
Although the Manningcast has a larger audience, Kay-Rod managed to land about 10 percent of ESPN’s total viewership. That’s a similar number when comparing ManningCast and the main Monday Night Football broadcast.
The main SNB broadcast had 2.13 million viewers, which means Kay-Rod had about 10 percent of the total viewership, which is similar to the Mannings.
