Urban Meyer hasn’t given any indiction as to who’ll be the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season. Most people believe it’ll be Trevor Lawrence, but a final decision hasn’t been made yet.
With the regular season approaching very soon, Meyer admit that he would like to have a decision made before Jacksonville’s preseason finale. That could mean a decision is coming right after the Jaguars take on the Saints this Monday.
Meyer has received a lot of criticism on social media for taking this approach, but it sounds like his players are more than fine with him waiting to make a decision.
In fact, Lawrence told reporters that he believes a quarterback competition like this is the best way to run a team.
“It doesn’t bother me,” Lawrence said. “I think that’s the way to run a team, honestly. The best player has to play and you’ve got to compete. As a first-year player coming in, it’s kind of what’s expected. You want to compete for the job. There’s a right way to do things, and I think they’ve handled it great. We’re in a good spot and we’re just going to keep working, and I’m going to take advantage of every opportunity I get. That’s all I can really do.”

Lawrence continues to say the right things in Jacksonville, which shouldn’t surprise anyone who has been following him closely since his days at Clemson.
In his preseason debut, Lawrence completed 6-of-9 passes for 71 yards. It wasn’t a jaw-dropping performance by any means, but he was efficient in Meyer’s offense.
The NFL world will get to see Lawrence on the national stage this Monday, as ESPN will broadcast the Jaguars’ showdown with the Saints.
