Top QB Prospect Makes Bold Promise After Getting Drafted

April 30, 2022 by The Spun

Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati.

The first two rounds of the NFL draft were supposed to see several quarterbacks come off the board.

In the end, only former Pitt standout Kenny Pickett heard his name called. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Pickett with the No. 20 overall pick as the rest of the quarterbacks slid down in the draft.

However, Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder, Liberty’s Malik Willis and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral all came off the board in the third round. The first of which was Ridder, who was selected by the Atlanta Falcons.

In the weeks leading up to the draft, the former Cincinnati quarterback was being talked about as a late first-round prospect. However, teams felt content to wait on quarterbacks while filling out the rest of their rosters.

Once Ridder finally heard his name called in the third round, he made a very bold promise to the Falcons and their fans.

“They’re gonna get a Super Bowl out of me,” he said via Bleacher Report.

It’s a bold statement, but one that fans shouldn’t dismiss right away. Coming out of high school, Ridder wasn’t a highly-recruited prospect.

He opted to go to Cincinnati, where he helped carry the Bearcats to the College Football Playoff in his final season.
