The Knicks had Woodson on their staff as an assistant coach this season, but he’ll now leave the franchise behind for the Hoosiers.
After the signing was announced, Thibodeau shared his thoughts on the move. It’s safe to say that he’s rooting for Woodson.
“Well, No. 1, we are thrilled for him,” Thibodeau said. “It’s bittersweet. Obviously, we’ll miss him. He’s an unbelievable guy, great coach, but it’s such an amazing story. And we want to thank Jim Dolan for allowing him to go, along with Leon [Rose] and Wes [William Wesley].”
Thibodeau also looked at the move from Woodson’s perspective, acknowledging that it’s tough to pass down a reunion with the Hoosiers.
“You’ve got to realize what this means to him. He’s a kid who grew up in Indianapolis, as did his wife Terri. And, of course, playing there and the career that he had — it’s really a special moment. It allows him to realize a dream and there’s no one more deserving than him, and he’ll knock it out of the park.”

Woodson will have his work cut out for him at Indiana, especially since the program hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament since 2016.
The first order of business for Woodson is to put a solid supporting cast around him. A recent report stated that Larry Brown could join his coaching staff in some capacity.
New York, meanwhile, will have to find a replacement for Woodson. Thibodeau said the team will look internally for a new assistant coach.
