After posting two solid rounds in his return to competitive golf earlier this week, Tiger Woods’ third-round Saturday at the 2022 Masters left quite a bit to be desired.
With a 6-over 78 on the day — his career-worst score at Augusta National — Woods currently sits in a tie for 41st with a 7-over score for the tournament.
While today’s round was no doubt his worst of the week, Woods doesn’t necessarily feel he hit the ball poorly. The majority of his lackluster scoring came from his play on the putting surface.
“I was hitting too many putts,” Tiger said with a laugh. “It was like a putting practice. I hit a thousand putts out there. I think I had four three-putts and a four-putt.
“Honestly I didn’t really feel like I hit it all that bad,” he continued. “I just had absolutely zero feel for the greens and it showed.”
“Well, I was hitting too many putts.”

It wasn’t exactly 1,000 putts as Tiger hyperbolized, but the all-time great golfer did notch a whopping 36 putts on the day — marking a tie for the second-most single-round putts of his career.
The poor putting for Tiger got off to a brutal start as he notched a rare four-putt on the fifth hole. From there, it was clear that the five-time Masters champion had no confidence on the greens.
While Tiger’s rough round knocked him out of tournament contention, he’ll look to bounce back with an improved score on Sunday.
