Jim Harbaugh might be coaching his final games at Michigan.
That feels somewhat crazy to write, considering how highly the Wolverines think of Harbaugh, but at a certain point, the school might be better off moving on. And we could be reaching that point following Saturday’s loss.
Michigan lost to Michigan State on Saturday, as the Wolverines fell to the Spartans, 27-24, to drop to 1-1 on the season. This just isn’t the kind of game that Harbaugh should be losing at this point in his tenure in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh is now 1-6 at home against his two rivals – Ohio State and Michigan State.
Many Wolverines fans are calling for Harbaugh to be fired. That’s not going to happen right away, but it’s possible that Michigan will have a new head coach in 2021.
Who could replace Harbaugh in Ann Arbor? There’s one extremely bold move (that Ohio State fans would not like).
Luke Fickell has built an absolute monster

Fickell, a former Ohio State player and assistant coach, is now the head coach at Cincinnati. Now, it’s possible that Fickell would say no to the Michigan job. He bleeds Scarlet and Gray and it’s fair to assume that an Ohio State man wouldn’t want that gig.
However, the Michigan job is still one of the sport’s premier jobs, and we’ve seen coaches switch sides in the past. Ohio State recently hired some Michigan assistant coaches. Legendary Michigan coach Bo Schembechler was previously an assistant at Ohio State.
So, we’ve seen it happen before, and maybe it would happen again.
If Michigan does fire Harbaugh, the Wolverines would be smart to make a big run at Fickell. He’s already very familiar with the Big Ten and has good recruiting ties in the area. Plus, it would add even more intrigue to the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry.
It would really upset me but Michigan should try to hire Luke Fickell or Jeff Hafley.

Of course, Fickell would still have to say yes to the job – and that remains a major question mark – but don’t be shocked if it happens.
