There may be no schools better at recruiting and developing NFL talent than Ohio State and Alabama football. Both programs will be hosting their Pro Days today. Teams will have to make some interesting decisions about which personnel they’ll send to each school as they scout for next month’s NFL Draft.
The San Francisco 49ers, who recently traded up to No. 3 with pretty clear intent of taking a quarterback, will have a major presence in Tuscaloosa and not Columbus today. That choice comes amid rumors that Jones, and not Fields or Trey Lance, could be the team’s favored pick in the No. 2 spot. Head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that the team will work out Fields at another team.
Alabama has two first-round wide receivers in DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, but they won’t work out today. Najee Harris, who did not participate in the last one, will reportedly do some field work today. Alabama football also has top prospects in cornerback Patrick Surtain II, defensive tackle Christian Barmore, offensive linemen Deonte Brown, Landon Dickerson, and Alex Leatherwood.

On the Ohio State side, Fields is joined by running back Trey Sermon, offensive linemen Wyatt Davis and Josh Myers, defensive tackle Tommy Togiai, linebacker Pete Werner, and cornerback Shaun Wade, among others.
While much of the intrigue is with the quarterback situation, both schools should have just about every franchise represented at their events today. There are plenty of future NFL stars participating in Tuscaloosa and Columbus.
The 2021 NFL Draft kicks off on April 29. With the star power, especially at the quarterback position, this year, it promises to be one of the craziest in years.
