The White House Was Asked About The Will Smith Incident

March 31, 2022 by The Spun

Joe Biden Visits China

It’s taken several days, but the biggest story in the United States has finally been brought to the attention of President Joe Biden: What are his thoughts on the Will Smith slap?

That question was asked to White House communications director Kate Bedingfield during Tuesday’s press briefing. But Bedingfield said that she could not weigh in on the President’s perspective in any official way.

Bendginfield explained that President Biden was unable to watch the Oscars this past Sunday. As a result, he missed seeing Will Smith walk up on stage and slap comedian Chris Rock after a joke directed at Jada Pinkett Smith.

“I know the President was not able to watch the Oscars – didn’t see it,” Bedingfield said. “So I don’t have anything. I don’t have any official comment from him or from the White House on this.”

Joe Biden apparently needs to see the Will Smith slap for himself first before his administration can officially weigh in. Ummm, okay. https://t.co/0sqwQ45LTN

Will Smith’s “slap heard around the world” has devoured the headlines and almost all national dialogue. On a broader level, the incident at the Oscars has opened up debates on toxic masculinity, joke-telling and power among the Hollywood elites.

But as far as the Biden administration is concerned, there’s no discussion to be had on the matter. Not now, at least.

That doesn’t mean the President won’t address the issue somewhere down the line. Then again, with all that’s going on in the country, maybe it’s best that he doesn’t.

Will Joe Biden eventually weigh in on the Will Smith slap?
