In the lead-up to the 2021 NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t hide their affection for Alabama running back Najee Harris.
Head coach Mike Tomlin and company waited on draft night as Harris dropped to the team at No. 24. They were clearly thrilled to get their guy without having to trade up in the draft.
A year later, the Steelers reportedly haven’t been hiding their love for another top prospect as well. This time, though, the team might have to trade up if they want to land him.
The team has reportedly been spending a lot of time looking into Liberty quarterback Malik Willis. At the Senior Bowl last week, both Tomlin and Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert were seen talking to Willis.
“Everyone thinks he’s going to Pittsburgh,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said about Willis.

Jeremiah broke down Willis’ performance at the Senior Bowl and how that will impact his draft status.
“I don’t think any quarterback truly ran away from the pack this week,” he said. “However, Willis’ practice on Wednesday was the best performance by any QB, which is especially impressive given the rainy conditions players dealt with that day. He’s very much in the mix to be the first quarterback drafted. I’m looking forward to seeing his decision making in the game on Saturday. That’s the last box for him to check to make this a really solid week.”
Pittsburgh holds the No. 20 pick. That might not be high enough to land one of the draft’s top quarterback prospects.
