The Seahawks Have Reportedly Signed A New Tight End

The Seattle Seahawks thought they solved their issue at tight end this week when they signed Luke Willson. However, he announced his retirement shortly after signing a deal with the team.

“After signing with the Seahawks yesterday, I have decided to walk away from the game of football,” Wilson wrote. “This offseason I went through some health issues and spent numerous days in the hospital with a severe pericardial effusion. That situation has really challenged me as an individual and changed my perspective on a lot of things with regards to my life. After reflecting on everything yesterday and being in the building, I have decided that it’s time for me to begin with the next chapter of my life.”

Willson’s retirement has opened the door for another tight end to join Seattle’s roster. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks are signing Cal product Ian Bunting.

Bunting was waived by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this week. He didn’t make much of an impact in the passing game this preseason.

The day after Luke Willson steps away, the #Seahawks signed Ian Bunting to take his roster spot. The 6-foot-7 former UDFA from Cal was released by the #AZCardinals recently.

Though he hasn’t been that productive in the NFL just yet, Bunting is an intriguing player due to his 6-foot-7 frame.

Bunting probably won’t be asked to do an awful lot as a pass catcher since the Seahawks already have Gerald Everett and Will Dissly at tight end. He’ll most likely compete with  Tyler Mabry and Cam Sutton for a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Seahawks will take on the Chargers this Saturday in their preseason finale. It’s unknown if Bunting will receive any snaps in that game.
