It isn’t March Madness if fans and media aren’t complaining about the officiating.
In this case, the officials in the Richmond-Iowa first-round game have been questionable. They’ve missed some fouls towards the late stages of the game that could’ve made a difference.
Instead, Iowa has been eliminated and Richmond will be taking on Providence on Saturday.
It didn’t take long for college hoops fans to slam the officials on social media, especially after they missed a blatant foul on an Iowa three-pointer.
@NCAA please look into getting better refs. These kids deserve better

Man, Iowa really needed the officials who called a foul on the Jared Bynum 3.

Iowa just got SHAFTED oh my god… NCAA refs are a JOKE

Disgraceful officiating in the Iowa/Richmond game. Those refs should never work another NCAA tournament game.

These refs don’t get anymore games in the tournament … right? Especially if anyone from the @NCAA is watching. Holy smokes. So bad for both teams

Every ref in this Iowa Richmond game should never ref in the NCAA again

These officials were awful down the stretch. They should replay the final two minutes!

6 point swing because the refs are garbage in the NCAA. Murray was fouled on a 3 attempt and they didn’t call it. Richmond gets an and 1 attempt and makes it.

Iowa will now have to wait until next year to play again. The Hawkeyes were fresh off winning the Big 10 Tournament this past weekend and were 26-9 going into this game.
We’ll have to see if the officiating improves as the tournament goes on. You can see the rest of Thursday’s games on CBS, TNT, TruTV, and TBS.
