NFL teams don’t have to pare down their rosters to 53 until Tuesday afternoon, but the Pittsburgh Steelers made a significant number of cuts last night.
Pittsburgh released nine players–tight end Marcus Baugh, running back Tony Brooks-James, cornerback Shakur Brown, defensive tackle T.J. Carter, wide receiver Anthony Johnson, cornerback Lafayette Pitts, offensive guard Malcolm Pridgeon, wide receiver Mathew Sexton and safety Lamont Wade–on Saturday.
All nine players entered the league as undrafted free agents over the last few years.

On Wednesday, the team will be able to add players to its 16-man practice squad.
The Steelers are coming off a 3-1 preseason, which concluded with a 34-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Friday. Pittsburgh will open the 2021 season against the Buffalo Bills at 1 p.m. ET on September 12.
