With the first two weeks of the preseason officially in the books, NFL teams must get their rosters down to 80 players each by this Tuesday afternoon.
Although the deadline is still a few hours away, the New England Patriots have reportedly already made their roster cuts.
According to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, the Patriots have released wide receiver Devin Ross, safety Malik Gant, long snapper Brian Khoury and offensive lineman R.J. Prince. None of these moves are considered notable since all four players were buried on the depth chart.
Gant, Khoury, Prince and Ross will now have the chance to sign with another team before the start of the regular season. The odds of them making another 53-man roster are fairly slim simply because they’re running out of time.
Ross and Gant have had history with the Patriots, so they could always return if the team needs some depth later down the road.

The Patriots’ preseason finale will be extremely important for players on the bubble, as they’ll have to trim the roster down to 53 players by next week.
New England’s preseason finale will take place this Sunday against the New York Giants. It’ll be the final opportunity for lower-level players to make a strong impression on Bill Belichick.
