The New England Patriots appear to have found their new franchise quarterback in Mac Jones. But they’re giving a notable quarterback a tryout to try and give Jones some backup help.
According to Patriots insider Mike Reiss, the Patriots had free agent quarterback Josh Dobbs in for a tryout today. Dobbs is a five-year NFL veteran but has only appeared in six games and has less than 50 career snaps.
The former Tennessee quarterback was a fourth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017 and has spent most of his career with them. He was with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 but never played a down for them.
Dobbs is 10 of 17 in his career for 45 yards and an interception as a passer. He has six carries for 31 yards on the ground.

The Patriots already have Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham under contract for the 2022 season. New England has 66 players under contract right now and will be giving contracts to another two dozen after the NFL Draft.
Dobbs might wind up getting a contract and just an invitation to camp with a shot at making the final 53-man roster.
Will Josh Dobbs have an NFL team for the 2022 NFL season, or will he be forced to sit this one out?
