With Summer League coming to a close on Tuesday evening, the NBA is set to hit its slowest time of the year over the next few months. The 2021 Draft has taken place and free agency has quieted down, allowing fans to take a breather before gearing up for a new season.
However, the league is still looking to drum up some excitement by announcing some major scheduling news later this afternoon.
According to a statement from the NBA’s communications department, the league plans to release the national television game schedule for the opening week of the 2021-22 season on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET. The NBA will also announce the schedule for its five Christmas Day games this afternoon.
“Coming today at 3 p.m. ET: The NBA will announce the national television game schedule across TNT, ESPN and ABC for opening week and Christmas Day for its landmark 75th Anniversary Season,” the NBA announced in a statement on Twitter.

Although nothing is official just yet, reports have indicated that some Christmas Day match-ups are already set. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks are slated to return to Madison Square Garden for a meeting with the New York Knicks. The two teams met in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs in a series that became one of the most thrilling of this summer’s postseason.
Wojnarowski also reports that the Christmas Day headliner will feature two of the league’s top title contenders: the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers. Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden will reportedly take on LA’s trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook at Staples Center.
