To up the ante a bit, the Masters tournament announced a sizable increase to this year’s purse on Saturday.
Per CBS Sports’ Kyle Porter, “Masters announces a massive increase in this year’s purse size.” Noting that this year’s tournament at Augusta National features a $3.5 million jump in payout.
Making it the highest ever prize fund at a major.

The winner of the Masters will reportedly receiver over $2.5 million, while second and third place will each walk away with $1.6 a $1 million respectively.
The sum of the purse raises the Masters above last year’s U.S. Open; which featured $12.5 million in prize money for its participants. However, the highest playing golf event in the world is still the Players Championship, paying out a whopping $20 million.
Even the 50th place golfer in this year’s Masters will walk away with over $35,000 for the weekend. Not bad for a few days on the links in Augusta.
As of right now, American Scottie Scheffler is the first in line for that two-plus million dollar prize, shooting -9 for the tournament.
