The Buffalo Bills wasted no time getting their roster down to 80 players before the 4 p.m. deadline this Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, the Bills announced that they released linebacker Tyrell Adams, offensive lineman Tyler Gauthier, tight end Bug Howard, wide receiver Lance Lenoir and safety Tariq Thompson.
All five players who were released by Buffalo this Tuesday signed with the team earlier this year. In fact, Howard and Gauthier didn’t join the squad until late July.
These weren’t considered shocking releases by the Bills, but it’s a bit surprising that Thompson hasn’t made much of an impact this summer. He was undrafted coming out of college, but he had quite the career at San Diego State.
During his time with the Aztecs, Thompson had 210 tackles, 23 passes defended, 11 interceptions, five forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He literally stuffed the stat sheet at the collegiate level.
Thompson could potentially join another team’s practice squad later this year.

The Bills will wrap up their preseason with a showdown against the Green Bay Packers. That game will take place this Saturday afternoon.
Once that game is over, Buffalo will have to trim the roster down to 53 players. This means every Bills player competing for a job this weekend needs to perform at an extremely high level.
