The Bucs officially announced the re-signing of Pro Bowl wideout Chris Godwin on Monday. But, reporters had some other questions on their mind for Tampa Bay GM Jason Licht.
Like, will Tom Brady play beyond the 2022 season?
Here’s what Licht had to say about Brady’s future with the Bucs beyond this coming year: “We’ll get to that when we get to it,” Licht responded. “Right now we’re focused on what we have and what we need to do in the next few days.”
Bucs GM Jason Licht said Tom Brady knew the front office would do everything to put the best team on the field if he returned. That was never a discussion.

The general manager was also asked if Brady’s contract would be extended out in order to give the Bucs more cap relief.
To which Light said, “We have some work to do, and we’ve got some plans. There’s several ways to go about it, but I don’t want to get into too much of what we’re doing. We’ve got several alternatives that we can do, and we’re confident that we’ll be able to get it done.”
Brady’s base salary and roster bonus add up to just over $10 million. However, his cap hit is double that.

On his way out, Licht was asked about the relationship between Brady and Bucs head coach Bruce Arians. And while the GM admitted “there’s always going to be some friction,” he says Tom enjoyed his time in Tampa.
“… We didn’t talk about it much,” Licht explained. “You can’t believe everything you hear and see and read. There’s always going to be some friction between people on a staff and players and a coach. It’s just normal … We didn’t really think much about it … [Tom Brady] has loved his time here. And he’s told me that several times.” Concluding, “Open communication is great thing.”
