The Bills Reportedly Have A New Stadium Proposal

We know have some new reported details regarding the Buffalo Bills’ most recent stadium proposal.

According to John Wawrow of the Associated Press, the Bills are calling for a 60,000-seat stadium to be built by 2027. The project, which would feature 12,000 less seats than Buffalo’s current stadium, will reportedly cost $1.4 billion.

The Bills’ lease at Highmark Stadium, their home since 1973, expires in July 2023. However, if the state of New York and Erie County approve this latest proposal, the team will reportedly reup for another couple of seasons until its new home is ready.

It remains to be seen how quickly any deal could be approved, as well as how the state and franchise will split costs for the stadium.

“The expectation is the state and county will be asked to cover more than 50% of the project, raising concerns about the potential for taxpayer funding,” Wawrow said.

There have been whispers this summer about the Bills potentially being candidates to move if a new stadium could not be agreed to. Austin, Texas was even mentioned by ESPN’s Seth Wickersham as a potential city to keep an eye on.

However, it seems like things are trending toward the Bills being in Western New York for the foreseeable future.

“It’s time to get a stadium done that we think can make sure the Bills are here and successful for many, many decades going forward,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said last weekend, via News4Buffalo. “We’re focused on keeping the Bills here in a new stadium in a public, private partnership. That’s what this is all about and that’s where we’re focusing.”
