Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is going out with a big splash in his final offseason with the team. His latest acquisition is a highly-sought All-Pro player from New England.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are signing Gunner Olszewski to a two-year, $2.4 million deal. Olszewski is heading into his fourth NFL season and has been the New England Patriots’ primary return man for the last three years.
The former Bemidji State cornerback had a breakout season in 2020. He led the NFL in punt return yards and yards per punt return that season, earning First-Team All-Pro honors for his efforts.
He’s almost certain to be an upgrade over the Steelers’ incumbent punt and kick returner, Ray-Ray McCloud. Olszewski’s averages in both categories last year were higher than McCloud’s.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been uncharacteristically splashy in the 2022 offseason.
Some of their most notable acquisitions include Myles Jack, Levi Wallace and James Daniels. All of them are expected to start in 2022 given how much they’re being paid.
But the Steelers still have a pretty big hole at quarterback staring them right in the face. With how they’ve dragged their feet in free agency, they’re either angling for a trade or waiting until the NFL Draft.
Whoever they get though will be tasked with leading the Steelers into a new era – on the field and in the front office.
