Avery and Joseph bolster a strong unit of free agent signings for the Steelers this offseason.
Avery, a former fifth-round draft pick for the Cleveland Browns, logged his best NFL season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. Starting a career-high 12 games and appearing in 16 contests, the fourth-year pro notched a career-best 43 tackles and 1.0 sacks. Now set to join the Steelers’ roster, he should provide some solid depth behind incumbent starter Devin Bush and big-time free-agent signee Myles Jack.
Joseph, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2016 draft, will also provide some veteran depth at the safety position. The former Raiders/Browns starter was only on the Steelers’ active roster for two games in 2021, but that didn’t stop the team from re-signing him for the 2022 season. The Pittsburgh organization also re-signed safety Miles Killebrew earlier this offseason.
