Sixers Player Officially “Ineligible To Play” In Toronto

April 7, 2022 by The Spun

A general view of the Philadelphia 76ers arena.

The Sixers will be without one of their top defenders for Thursday night’s game in Toronto.

On Wednesday, 76ers forward Matisse Thybulle was listed as “ineligible to play” on the NBA’s injury report likely due to his vaccination status and Canada’s COVID-19 protocols.

Sixers reporter Noah Levick was one of the first to report the news.

Since arriving in the NBA, Thybulle has established himself as one of the top wing defenders in the league. And has been key to the identity Philly has built over the past couple seasons.

That said, head coach Doc Rivers had admitted that it’s “hard” to play Thybulle at times. Because if he isn’t dynamic defensively every night, it’s hard for him to be on the floor since he doesn’t contribute much on the other side of the ball.

A couple seasons ago, Thybulle was a pretty reliable 3-and-D player; but since his percentages have dipped, most of his value to the Sixers is on the defensive end.

So that answers that question. Sixers would be without him for road games in the playoffs if they faced the Raptors

Philadelphia currently sits in a three-way tie for second in the Eastern Conference. As the Celtics, Bucks and 76ers all own 49-30 records. With the Toronto Raptors not too far behind.

After Thursday night, the Sixers finish with the Pacers and Pistons before the start of the postseason. Which Thybulle may miss half of should the team face the Raptors in a series.
