Website thinks new Raiders’ offensive coordinator is middle of the road
There is renewed optimism about the Las Vegas Raiders’ offense in the 2025 season after a mostly down overall performance by the unit last season.
One of the reasons why there is excitement about the Silver and Black’s offense going into this season is that the team hired Chip Kelly as their offensive coordinator.
How is Kelly valued outside the team Raiders’ realm? Middle of the road, apparently.
Pro Football Network recently ranked the 32 play callers in the NFL. Kelly was ranked at No. 17, so just below average. The Website reasoned that Kelly, who was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers from 2013-16, struggled in the NFL and this is his first season back in the league.
Yes, Kelly has had great success at the college level, as he helped Ohio State win the national championship last season. Kelly can coach offense. But it must work at the NFL.
So, given the fact of Kelly’s history and the reality that there are many strong play callers in the NFL, this ranking seems far.
And if Kelly answers the bell, he will rise up these types of rankings soon.
