Silver Minings: Rival tried to trade up for Ashton Jeanty

The Denver Broncos reportedly attempted to jump in front of the Las Vegas Raiders to draft rookie running back

The Las Vegas Raiders began the Pete Carroll and John Spytek era with their first draft pick, Ashton Jeanty. The combination of Chip Kelly and Ashton Jeanty is expected to revive a running game that was non-existent in 2024.

However, the Raiders weren’t the only team all in on Ashton Jeanty. ESPN is reporting that the Denver Broncos were attempting to move up in the draft and take Jeanty.

“The Broncos considered moving up in the first round for running back Ashton Jeanty,” Fowler said. “They called around to teams picking in the top 10. But the price simply would have been ‘too heavy’ for Denver’s liking, per a source. And the team eyeing Jeanty (the Raiders at No. 6) was a division rival, thus not a likely trade partner.”

It would have been a significant move by the Broncos, jumping from 20th to the top ten. It is interesting to consider the draft haul the Raiders could have had and drafted a player like Omarion Hampton. That is all hypothetical, and the organization is happy and excited that it landed the star running back from Boise State.
