Raiders will use second most salary-cap room on offense in the NFL for third time in four seasons

The Associated Press has some interesting salary cap nuggets about the Raiders in the past three years.

The Raiders have used more of their salary cap room on offense than most teams in the league since 2017. They will spend the second most in the league on that side of the ball in 2020.

According to Over the Cap, via the AP, the Raiders spent the second most in the NFL in 2017-18 and the sixth most in 2019. Conversely, they dedicated much less cap room on defense in that time span. They were ranked 23rd in 2017 and 31st the past two years. After adding several veterans on defense this year in free agency, the Raiders have spent the 15th most in the NFL on defense.

According to Over The Cap, here are #Raiders ranks in cap money spent on offense and defense from 2017-20:
2017: 2nd most on offense, 23rd on defense
2018: 2nd on offense, 31st on defense
2019: 6th on offense, 31st on defense
2020: 2nd on offense, 15th on defense

he Raiders haven’t gotten the offensive payoff in the past three years and they have a combined 18-30 record during that time spent.

With the continued financial commitment offense and getting in the top half of spending on defense, the Raiders badly need to see money spent result into victories.

In other Raiders’ links:

  • Waller honored: CBS Sportsline has its list of the top 100 players in the NFL. The only Raider on the list is tight end Darren Waller. He is ranked No. 79. I think center Rodney Hudson should be on this list as well.
  • Amukamara pumped: New cornerback Prince Amukamara is excited to play in Paul Guenther’s system.
  • Richard loves the new running back room: The Athletic has a nice piece on Jalen Richard and he says how excited he is to see the new faces at his position.
  • LaMarucs Joyner love: PFF had the slot corner ranked fourth in man coverage in 2019.
  • Love for Tom Flores: ESPN is stumping for former Raiders’ coach Tom Flores to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
