The Las Vegas Raiders 3rd-round pick is getting comparisons to former Pete Carroll star
The Las Vegas Raiders have made five picks in the first three rounds after two second-round trades. John Spytek has been executing his plan to build this roster through the draft.
The only defensive player drafted through the first two days is cornerback Darien Porter from Iowa State. Porter had three interceptions in 2025 and gave up five receptions all year for a completion percentage of 29%. He is an older prospect but fits the mold of what Pete Carroll desires for an outside corner. At 6’3 195 with 33-inch arms, he is built for this scheme, which will allow him to play press coverage.
During the press conference after the end of day two, Carroll gave his thoughts on the draft haul through three rounds. When discussing Porter, he brought up a potential future Hall of Famer as a comparison.
“A lot like Richard Sherman, fast and long and he started as a receiver in college. I have really high expectations for Darien.”
Porter shouldn’t have those expectations, but Carroll did develop other long corners, such as Tyreke Evans. He should have a chance to play early with the Raiders’ starting corner positions wide open for competition. With the Raiders having two picks in the fourth round, they could add more corners to help compete in the secondary.
