Silver Minings: Jon Gruden wants clean work against Rams

Las Vegas coach doesn’t want to see any fighting next two days

Jon Gruden is bringing his Las Vegas Raiders to Southern California for two days of scrimmage work with the Los Angeles Rams in advance of their preseason game at SoFi Stadium on Saturday night.

The Raiders and Rams will hold the joint practices Wednesday and Thursday in Irvine.

Often, around the NFL, these types of joint workouts can get quite chippy. The Raiders had a pretty big fight with the Dallas Cowboys seven years ago during a joint workout. The Raiders and Rams worked out together two summers go and it wasn’t that bad.

Gruden told reporters Tuesday he wants to see clean work and he’s not interested in seeing his players fight. He and Rams coach Sean McVay have a strong relationship (McVay worked for Gruden in Tampa Bay) and they will clearly communicate they want to see practices without issues the next two days,

“We don’t want any pushing and shoving and fighting,” Gruden said. “That’s not competitive, that’s stupidity. And we got to keep our poise and get our work done. I didn’t really see the other scrimmage (against Dallas), so I don’t know what happened but we’re going to practice with the same etiquette that we practice here, and our players have done a great job of that. I expect theirs to do the same.”

Other Raiders’ links:

  • Many options: Raiders’ coach Jon Gruden tells Sirius NFL Radio how much he thinks he can do with the offense with Derek Carr at quarterback.
  • Leatherwood talks: Raiders’ first-round pick, right tackle Alex Leatherwood, tells The Athletic how he is feeling thus far.
  • Javin was fired up: Raiders’ linebacker Javin White was Mic’d up for the Seattle game. This is good stuff.
  • Undrafted standout: The Draft Network thinks Raiders’ running back Trey Ragas was one of the most impressive undrafted rookies in Week 1 of the preseason.
