Shaquille O’Neal’s Son, Shareef, Enters Transfer Portal

March 29, 2022 by The Spun

With one year of college basketball eligibility remaining, LSU forward Shareef O’Neal – son of LSU legend Shaquille O’Neal – is taking his talents elsewhere.

According to Stadium college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, O’Neal is entering the transfer portal. His final game with the Tigers was a five minute cameo in their NCAA Tournament loss to Iowa State.

In two seasons at LSU, Shareef O’Neal appeared in 24 games – no starts – and averaged less than 12 minutes a game. He totaled 68 points, 74 rebounds and one assist with 10 blocks and seven steals.

This isn’t the first time that O’Neal has decided to take his basketball and go somewhere else. He spent his first two college basketball seasons at UCLA, one of which was under a medical redshirt, and barely played as a sophomore.

Coming out of high school in 2018, Shareef O’Neal was considered a four-star prospect and the No. 41 player in his class, per 247Sports. He chose UCLA after giving up on Arizona following the pay-for-play scandal.

But time on the court has been hard to come by for O’Neal. And unless he finds a place where can get a lot of minutes right away, he’ll finish his basketball career with just over 400 minutes.

That said, there are boundless options for O’Neal now. He can try his hand at another Power Five school or try his luck in the mid-majors.

Where do you think Shareef O’Neal will go next?
