Sean McDermott Sends Clear Message After Bills Fines

Sean McDermott looks onto the field as coach.

It’s been an eventful couple of days for all the wrong reasons for Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott. Today was the latest frustration for him as several of his players were fined for violations of COVID-19 protocols.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, McDermott acknowledged that the numerous absences his team has due to COVID-19 may put them at a competitive disadvantage. He said that the organization has continuously tried to educate the players on the virus’ dangers.

As for the issue of vaccination, McDermott said he feels it’s “right” to get vaccinated. But he also said that he respects his players’ decision not to.

“Some people are in a better position than we are at this point,” McDermott said. “I respect our players’ decisions. In my opinion, it’s right to get vaccinated.”

The Buffalo Bills are among the favorites to win the AFC and even the Super Bowl. But absences due to COVID-19 could threaten their entire season.

Teams that miss games due to not having enough players will be subject to forfeiting games. While no team has reached that point in training camp so far, it could have happened last year.

There isn’t a whole lot that Sean McDermott can do at this point though. Some of his players have made their minds up about how they feel on vaccination and won’t budge.

It may be a while before the team reaches a tipping point. But it’s starting to feel like the tipping point is coming.
