The Seattle Seahawks have decided to pick up tight end Noah Fant’s fifth-year option.
It’s the first time that Seattle has ever picked up a fifth-year option on a player.
TE Noah Fant becomes the first player the Seahawks have ever picked up their 5th year option on.
The team previously declined it on 4 other first rounders, while Seattle did not use a 1st round pick in 2013-2015 and 2017.
DE L.J. Collier’s 5th year option is unlikely.

Fant was part of the Russell Wilson trade as he was in the package that went back to the Seahawks.
He’s been a reliable pass catcher for the last three seasons and just had a great 2021 campaign. He finished the year with 670 receiving yards and four touchdowns off of 68 receptions.
He’ll be added help for the Seahawks’ offense after they had to heavily rely on DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett last season. Outside of those two receivers, no one else really stepped up.
The Seahawks will also have to figure out their quarterback situation unless they want to start Drew Lock. He also came back in the Wilson trade, but they could draft one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft to start instead.
If Fant plays well in 2022, it won’t be long before the two sides likely engage in contract negotiations for a long-term deal.
