The Seattle Seahawks are the reigning NFC West champions and legit Super Bowl contenders heading into the season. But their defense may have just suffered a major setback after a key player tore his ACL.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Seahawks linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven sustained a torn ACL in their Saturday game against the Denver Broncos. Burr-Kirven has played in every game for the Seahawks since making his NFL debut in 2019.
Per the report, Burr-Kirven has been working with the starters this summer after never starting an NFL game. He was reportedly emerging as “a key player” who was impressing at camp.
In two seasons with the Seahawks, Burr-Kirven has worked almost exclusively on special teams. He has 16 career tackles, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble in 32 games.

Last year the Seattle Seahawks defense ranked 15th in the NFL in points and 22nd in yards. It was the second year in a row that the team finished in the bottom half of the league in both categories.
The Seahawks chose not to re-sign longtime starting linebacker KJ Wright after the season, leaving his spot open for Ben Burr-Kirven to take. Fans are already clamoring for Seahawks GM John Schneider to give Wright a call and return.
Seattle have enough offensive firepower to overcome almost any defensive injury and win 10-plus games. But they’ll be hard-pressed to make an impact in the postseason without defensive improvement.
How will the Seahawks respond to the Ben Burr-Kirven injury?
