Earlier this week, former top NFL draft pick and quarterback Ryan Leaf made headlines when he released his top-25 for the upcoming college football season.
Entering the 2021 season, most analysts have Alabama sitting in the top spot. That would make sense after the Crimson Tide’s dominant performance against Ohio State in the national title game.
Leaf, however, put Nick Saban and company at No. 3 – behind No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 Oklahoma. Unfortunately for Crimson Tide fans, that’s not all the bad news he’s projecting for Alabama.
On Saturday morning, Leaf revealed his preseason predictions for the SEC standings. He thinks Texas A&M will finish the season with an undefeated record and sit atop the SEC West.
Perhaps even more surprising, he thinks Alabama will lose TWO games.
.@SEC Preseason Predictions
West-
1. TX A&M 12-0
2. Ole Miss 10-2
3. Alabama 10-2
4. LSU 8-4
5. Arkansas 6-6
6. Auburn 6-6
7. Miss St 5-7East-
1. Georgia 11-1
2. Kentucky 10-2
3. Florida 9-3
4. Missouri 7-5
5. Tennessee 6-6
6. South Carolina 4-8
7. Vandy 3-9— Ryan D Leaf (@RyanDLeaf) August 21, 2021
Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide rarely lose more than once in a season, but it did happen just two years ago.
Before that, though, Alabama hadn’t lost more than one game since 2014 – and only one of those losses came during the regular season. Suffice it to say, Alabama doesn’t lose veery often, but Ryan Leaf thinks this will be an off year.
If the Crimson Tide do, in fact, lose two games, they won’t be in the College Football Playoff picture for the first time in years. Even during the two-loss season in 2019, Alabama was still right there in the playoff hunt.
