Rory McIlroy won’t leave Augusta National with a Green Jacket that has long eluded him, but he made history in the final round of the 2022 Masters.
McIlroy shot an 8-under on Sunday with an eagle and six birdies, bringing his overall score to 7-under. That performance matched the lowest final-round score ever at the Masters.
The 32-year-old cemented the accolade with an outstanding bunker shot in the final hole.

In another year, McIlroy’s stunning Sunday showcase might have propelled him to an improbable comeback triumph. However, Scottie Scheffler was too much to overcome.
PGA Tour’s top-ranked golfer held a commanding throughout the tournament. While the final outcome was closer than expected, he still prevailed at 10-under.
McIlroy had to settle for second place, his best showing at the Masters. While he tied for fifth in both 2018 and 2020, he missed the cut altogether last year.
Runner-up placement is disappointing, as his career Grand Slam remains out of reach. Yet it’s a remarkable finish having entered Sunday 1-over par.
