Over the weekend, a report emerged suggesting Tom Brady planned to join a different team after his retirement announcement.
According to a report from the Boston Globe, Brady had interest in leaving the Buccaneers for the Miami Dolphins. Those plans were thwarted after Brian Flores’ lawsuit against the Dolphins and the NFL as a whole emerged.
Just a few days later, Boston Globe reporter Ben Volin expanded on his initial report. He joined the Dan Le Batard Show and spoke with Le Batard and Stugotz.
During their conversation, Volin essentially said Brady’s retirement announcement was for the Buccaneers only. That helps explain why he didn’t mention the New England Patriots in his retirement announcement.
According to Volin, Brady planned to play against the Patriots twice per season.
“Holy shit. That is crazy.” — Dan after @BenVolin revealed that Tom Brady didn’t thank the Patriots in his goodbye letter because he planned to play them twice a year — as a member of the Miami Dolphins. #whatcouldhavebeen

It certainly seemed like Brady was looking for a way out of Tampa following the 2021 season. He was connected to the Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers as possible landing spots if he chose to move on.
Brady opted to retire, which may have been a way to get out of his contract with the team. Instead, he’ll be back with the Buccaneers when they step on the field in 2022.
What 2023 brings, however, could be a different story.
