The NFL’s Black Monday has yet to arrive, but teams around the league are already planning to make some changes to their coaching staffs. The Detroit Lions are just the latest to make clear that one of their top assistants won’t be back in 2022.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Lions are expected to part ways with offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn after Sunday’s regular season finale against the Green Bay Packers.
The decision will bring Lynn’s time with the franchise to an end after just one season.

The Lions rank 22nd in total offense in the bottom-five in scoring headed into Week 18, averaging just 18.0 points per game. Despite a talented group of running backs, steady play from Jared Goff and impressive pass-catching performance from tight-end T.J. Hockensen rookie wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit’s offense couldn’t keep pace in most games this year.
Lynn, 53, was hired to join first-year head coach Dan Cambell in Detroit in 2021 after spending four years as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. He was fired in 2020 after a 7-9 season with rookie quarterback Justin Herbert.
The Chargers hired Lynn in 2017 after a stint as the assistant head coach and running backs coach with the Buffalo Bills. He posted 33-31 overall record with the Bolts, which included a single playoff appearance during the 2018 season.
Prior to landing with the Chargers, Lynn spent time in various offensive assistant roles with the Bills, the New Jets, the Cleveland Browns, the Dallas Cowboys, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Denver Broncos.
Before parting ways with Lynn, the Lions will look to close out the 2021 season on a high note. Detroit will square off with Green Bay on Sunday in an NFC North matchup.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
