Leading up to the start of the 2021 season, the quarterback narrative around the New Orleans Saints organization has been focused squarely on the battle between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill. But now, some of that attention is shifting towards rookie reserve Ian Book.
During the broadcast of the Saints’ second preseason matchup against the Jaguars last night, ESPN’s Monday Night Football crew reported that multiple teams have called to show interest in a trade for the fourth-round pick out of Notre Dame.

The Saints recently listed veteran QB Trevor Siemian in the third string spot ahead of Book on the depth chart. The former seventh-round draft pick took reps in Monday’s 23-21 win over Jacksonville while his rookie teammate remained on the sideline.
Book played the entire second half in the Saints’ preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens — throwing 9/16 for 126 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception in a 14-17 loss.
After a few years as a standout QB1 for the Fighting Irish, Book was drafted with the 133rd overall pick as a potential longterm future QB for the Saints. That being said, it’s hard to see the Saints giving up on him this easily.
Although, if the New Orleans front office is happy with Siemian (who’s set to make just a little over $100,000 more than Book this season) as a third-string option, a trade for the rookie QB is entirely possible.
The Saints will finish off their preseason schedule with a matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night.
